Residency for Latvian Creative Professionals in Fiskars village

Rozentāls- seura (Rozentāls Society, the Finnish-Latvian friendship association) invites Latvian professionals from all creative fields to apply for a residence in Fiskars village in Finland. This includes, but is not limiter to, working craftspeople, designers, visual artists, architects, industrial designers, performing artists, composers, musicians, curators, producers, journalists, writers and researchers.

Residency period is September 2024. The accommodation for the resident artist is free of charge. Rozentāls-seura offers fully furnished apartment with private kitchen, bathroom and work space in a traditional Nordic style house in the heart of Fiskars Village. It is suitable also for a couple or small family. The artist also gets support to cover the travel expenses. Artists must finance their living costs and working materials.

Rozentāls-seura also wishes that the artist is willing to do a presentation of their work to the members of the society.

HOW TO APPLY?
Resident artist/ artists are selected on the basis of applications (work plan, CV and portfolio). Apply by sending your work plan, CV and portfolio in English via this link.  Application period closes at 11.59 PM on May 31st.

In the basement of the house is a workshop where artists can work, experiment and maybe even exhibit during their residency.

Fiskars village is a unique community of people in creative sector. Permanent residents of the Fiskars village are artists, designers, photographers, writers, musicians, goldsmiths, tattoo artists and craftsmen in many fields. Depending on the interests, resident will have the possibility to work together with local artists. The co-working possibilities will be planned together with the resident artist. Rozentāls Society carries out its own publishing activities, arranges seminars, educational events and cultural activities in co-operation with other organizations. Our organisation was founded to promote broader understanding of Latvian social, cultural and economic life in Finland and the mission of the residency program is to stimulate the professional exchange and networking between creative professionals of Finland and Latvia.

Visual artist Ingrīda Pičukāne did her visual interpretation of both – Latvian and Finnish national epics – Lāčplēsis and Kalevala. Her residency project is still in progress and gigantic mushroom is expected to appear on the wall of some tall building in Finland!

Fiskars village is located about 90 kilometres from Helsinki. Fiskars can be reached easily by public transport (closest train station Karjaa), by car and by bike.
